Ask any professional you hire for references. Just because they have an ad in your yellow pages does not mean that they do good business. They only way to be sure that you are going to get your money's worth is to verify that their other customers are satisfied with their work.

Ask your exterminator to use the most effective methods first. Many exterminators assume that you rather give the less potent methods a try first, in order to save money, but they very rarely work. You might as well just use the most effective method so that it is done and over with.

Be preventative, not just reactive. Yes, you need to kill whatever pests you have in your home, but be sure to also treat how the problem began in the first place! Is there a crack in your flooring that brought pests in? Get it fixed. Is there a habit that food is left out? Change the practice. This will keep these pests from coming back again and again.

Bedbugs can be very difficult to get rid of because they have a tendency to hide. Before you exterminate them, be sure you're closing up all open holes. This way, bugs will not be able to escape these holes after the extermination procedures are done.

Airborne pests can be thwarted if you fix any tears or holes in screens on doors and windows. Not only do screens on windows and doors keep out flying pests, they also do a good job of keeping out crawling bugs as well. Holes that are in your screens are an open invitation to let bugs into your home.

Put your pet's food and water away at night. Pet food is a great meal for most insects and rodents. Having water next to it will only give them something to wet their mouth with. Putting the food and water away will not get rid of the pests, but it will at least reduce where they can get food from.

If you see damaged wood in your home, look at it closely for what kind of damage it is. If you see that the soft parts of the wood are gone but that the annual rings are intact, you likely have termites. Other forms of damage would be from other forms of insects.

Did you see rodents in your home? You must inspect your home for tiny cracks that animals can squeeze through. If you find any cracks fill them up with steel wool pads or poison. There are times when odor will repel pests. Mustard oil is good for this.

Dirty gutters and clogged drains are magnets for bugs and pests. These pests love the moisture, and the places where they can hide and breed. Clean your gutters and unclog any drains from around your home. This will eliminate the habitat that bugs love to hide in. When they are clean, there is no where for them to hide.




Pests love a cluttered house! The more stuff you have laying around on the floor or shoved into cupboards, the more places they have to hide and thrive. In order to eliminate this, a good idea is to go through your entire place a couple of times a year and getting rid of things you no longer need or use. The less things you have, the less things they have to hide in and under.

Do you have a rodent problem? If so, you need to do some work with your yard. Make sure the pests are uncomfortable in your space. Don't allow them to make homes in bushes and debris. Mow grass often, and keep the lids on your trash cans secure. These are helpful prevention steps when it comes to rodents.

Washing hands frequently doesn't just prevent colds, it can keep bugs away also. Never touch cabinets, drawers or open the fridge while you are preparing food without first washing your hands. The remnants on your fingers can leave a tempting scent for lurking insects or even provide them with a good meal.

Be sure to read and follow all pesticide directions with care. You're likely not to get the right results if you don't use them right. For instance, if the directions say to apply daily, then be sure to do so. If you skip some treatments, it could drag on for weeks before you see results.

Create a break between your landscaping and your foundation. Pests will often prefer to crawl in the shadows and under things. When you leave a clear boundary between your yard and your foundation, pests will be less likely to happen into your home, opting to stay in the safety and cool of the lawn.

If your garden is filled with slugs, use beer as effective remedy. Take an aluminum pie pan into your garden and place it at soil level. Fill it with beer and sit back and watch your snail problems disappear. Snails are attracted to the beer, but cannot get back out of the pie pan.

Keep garbage away from your house. You obviously have to throw out your household trash every day, but make sure that you keep the cans as far from your house as you can. Don't forget to cover the trash cans as well. Animals will smell the garbage, and try to get into the house if they can.

Prevent ants from invading your pet's food bowl by putting the bowl in a shallow dish of water. visit the next post will not go through water and will turn away when they encounter it. Keep the food bowl away from the wall so the ants will not find another way to invade it.

They can eat soap, shampoo and toothpaste as well as other strange substances you might think they wouldn't. Keep anything that they could use as food in an air-tight storage container, for your health and to keep from accidentally feeding them.
